        【报告内容简介】
Deeper understanding of the interface and bulk of active materials separately in lithium ion battery are crucial for better battery performance and safety. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) technique can supply detailed information on the electronic structure and the local chemistry of the absorbing atom and offers excellent opportunity for such tasks. With soft X-ray, XANES can gain information on the surface with electron yield (probing depth of 5-10 nm) and subsurface with fluorescence yield (probing depth of 100 nm) simultaneously which are perfect to study the surface and interface of battery materials even under operando. Further, Scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM), based on the X-ray absorption process, has a chemical contrast mechanism to allow for imaging at the nano-scale which can nicely correlate performance with structure variation in novel materials. Therefore soft X-ray XANES and STXM are great in exploring the surface and interface in battery.  On the other hand, hard X-ray can probe the bulk and more importantly it can probe the local geometry even in amorphous. This presentation will detail the intrinsic relevance of XAS and imaging for energy research and then highlights some breakthroughs achieved at CLS industry group in the last few years. Finally, future instrumentation development which will enable soft and hard X-ray operando experiment will be presented.
